Shame doesn't work


Marketers want people to buy their stuff. An advertisement saying, “Buy our shampoo, or everyone will hate you!”, is a horrible marketing-strategy. But this is how we market climate change.

Don’t fly on vacation to that place you have come for the last 20 years. Don’t eat the meals that you enjoy and know how to cook.

There are great climate-friendly alternatives for most things now. But insulting someone before selling them something is less likely to work. “I hate your mom! Oh, by the way, do you want to buy my carrot peeler?”

Understanding is a better tool than shame.
